On Veteran’s Day (Monday) our box did the “Murph” memorial WOD, which is the CrossFit version of a “Darth Vader” row:
- 1 mile run
- 100 pull ups
- 200 push ups
- 300 air squats
- 1 mile run
It was a long workout (46:23), and of course the push ups were my Waterloo. It wasn’t intense, just very long, requiring mental fortitude and a willingness to chip away at it 1-2 reps at a time, trying to maintain an unbroken rhythm at dubstep tempo,
It was the first CrossFit WOD I had done since Hurricane Sandy. I never thought I could do 100 pullups or 200 pushups even in a day, let alone in less than an hour. But I decided to attempt the full Rx workout because I knew I could make it up on the runs and air squats.
Was it worth it?
From a “support the troops” perspective, absolutely.
From a strictly athletic (and admittedly selfish) perspective, it was probably a rash and stupid decision to attempt it coming off of a couple of weeks of sporadic training. It is now Thursday night and I am still so sore all over that it’s tough to get any kind of quality workout. When you’re in your 40’s you have to watch it. I could have gotten in 6 short workouts in the time it’s taking to recover from one long one.
It was a good accomplishment, but on balance my fitness will go down this week, not up.
Lesson learned. Live to fight another day.
Do you mind if I quote a couple of your articles as long as I provide credit and sources back to your weblog?
My blog site is in the very same niche as yours and my users would really benefit
